Session Description:
Dr. Lindsay Meeker will guide participants through an in-depth exploration of center-based, content-rich reading instruction that seamlessly integrates literacy with science, social studies, and social-emotional learning (SEL). Using a child-centered approach, this session will illustrate how to design and implement literacy centers that both capture children’s natural curiosity and build foundational reading and comprehension skills through authentic, meaningful content. Participants will gain insight into how thematic, inquiry-based learning environments promote language development, critical thinking, and social connection.

Learner Objective:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to design and implement content-integrated reading centers that align with children’s interests while promoting literacy development across multiple domains, including science, social studies, and SEL. Participants will leave with strategies to plan and scaffold activities that encourage engagement, exploration, and deeper understanding through purposeful play and content-rich reading experiences.
